Mumbai: Uddhav Thackeray praises wildlife paintings by Sushma Jain

Mumbai: Wildlife paintings by artist Sushma Jain, on display at the Jehangir Art Gallery, elicited warm words of praise from Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray on Friday. Jain’s collection of 34 paintings on wildlife include16 paintings from this year and others from her work in 2017.

This artist from Bankura has been fond of painting from childhood, but began drawing from 2002. “I completed my basic eduction in drawing from the Federation of Art and obtained a degree in art from Sofia college, as it was my father’s wish,” said Jain. She has always been interested in wildlife and this time, has focused on it. “Sometimes, it took me an entire night to complete a painting, but my husband Anand Jain supported me,” she said.

Her paintings comprise horses, tigers, elephants, giraffes and other birds. Her exhibition has attracted nature lovers like Sena president Uddhav Thackeray, his wife Rashmi, son Tejas and Sena secretary Milind Narvekar. Also present were Gopal Dhoot and Sukrut Khandekar, editor of the Marathi daily Navshakti.
